This mug is squat and around 12oz large.
This piece was thrown on the wheel using Porcelain Clay and painted using black underglaze. The texture and flat planes on the bottom of the mug are made using a surform shaver at the leather hard stage of the drying process.
The ribbon squiggles are hand painted on using black underglaze.
The piece is first bisque fired then propped up on wads of clay to go through the Woodfire kiln. The wood firing process is what creates all of the beautiful, earthy colors of bright oranges and smokey greys within the piece.
